The Land Rover Uganda Club will be part of the Charity Donation Drive to Ngora School of the Deaf on 23rd September 2022. It has been part of our commitment to support this cause since 2019, when we first visited the school.
The Club will provide Land Rovers to help with logistical support and transportation to and from Kumi for any donated items and some members travelling to Ngora for the day.
We shall also fundraise from our Club members, friends, partners and well-wishers to contribute whatever financial help we can to this cause. We also pledged to support the school whenever possible continuously.

A Brief Background
One of only three specialised schools in Uganda provides nursery, primary & vocational training in tailoring & carpentry/ joinery to deaf children in Kumi, Uganda.
This boarding primary school serves deaf learners mainly in the Teso, Karamoja and Bugisu sub-regions. Most of these children’s parents are financially constrained and unable to pay for boarding school dues. Donating to the school will mean increased capacity and ability of the institution to keep these kids in school even when some parents can’t pay all that is needed to keep the children in a boarding facility.
Dropping out of school for a deaf child means loss of identity, lack of language development and ultimately no place in society. This annual charity trip aims to ensure that the pupils, whom their parents mostly abandon at the school, can attain education and skills that make them independent citizens of Uganda.
Given the specialised skills required, it costs £250 (Ugx 1.1m) per annum to sponsor a child at the school.
Many such children at this point are abandoned or from humble families hence unable to afford the services and usually end up without recourse. The girls miss classes or drop out due to insufficient sanitary towels.
The school does not turn down needy students but struggles through with help from mainly foreign well-wishers and a few friends who help attract donations to give more hope to these underprivileged deaf Ugandans.
23rd September 2022 will be the climax of the International Deaf Awareness Week.
In this regard, Boundless Hands Foundation, a charity organisation working with communities to promote the rights of Children living with Disabilities (CWDs), has organised a charity trip to Ngora Primary School for the Deaf in collaboration with The Land Rover Uganda Club, FunFactory, Law and Human Rights Foundation, Silent World Foundation, Hillcrest Safaris, Gibbs Wine and Liquor Store, BINS, and Siko Photography, among many other individuals who have generously contributed to this cause.
