It’s official – the Land Rover Uganda Club has this afternoon (26 April 2022) become the Official vehicle support partner for the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, an international rally event organised by the Federation of the Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) under the Africa Rally Championship Series (ARC) with the overall governance of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
With representative Land Rover models from the Club, the partnership, and the first of its kind, was cemented at Legends Rugby Grounds in Kampala. This happens with less than 10 days to the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally that will take place in areas of Mukono, Lugazi and Buikwe with a few transport sections along Jinja Road but also off the main roads from the 6th to 8th May 2022.
The rally, which has registered 45 entries, ten (10) of which are foreign nationals and 35 from Uganda will see Land Rovers as the First Intervention vehicles (FIVs), some will be assigned as route openers while others will be safety cars for the safe and convenient transportation of FIA officials, a First Aid Responders, Radio Communications personnel and a Marshal in each of the FIVs. FIA is the governing body of motorsport and promotes safe, sustainable and accessible mobility for all road users across the world.
It will also be one of the first events in the Ugandan rally history that Land Rovers precede the actual rally. Land Rovers will be used for route opening and route closing and will be safely driven through the routes at normal speeds, as motorsport is not only about rallying but also ensuring the safety of spectators among other factors, something that is key in Uganda rallying events where in many cases spectators overwhelm the safety teams.
Land Rovers are a perfect choice in such routes that are off the grid because of their excellent handling in tough unpredictable terrain thus making it easy to reach all areas easily through the rally sections.
The FMU announced that the 17 million Ugshs worth partnership is one that they were proud to be part of and would build on for other alliances during other upcoming events.
The Land Rover Uganda Club members will also be brand ambassadors of the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally.
