After a thrilling 26-12 victory over Tunisia on Sunday, February 9th, 2025, Morocco earned its place in the Rugby Africa Cup 2025, which will take place in Kampala, Uganda, this July.
The much-anticipated Repechage final in Casablanca saw Morocco hold a narrow 14-12 lead at halftime. They capitalised on two well-executed tries, while Tunisia made a strong comeback, crossing the line twice and converting one. Morocco sealed the win in the second half with two more tries, converting one.
The 2025 Rugby Africa Cup will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 Rugby World Cup and will feature eight of Africa’s top rugby nations. The teams battling for the crown will be:
- Zimbabwe
- Algeria
- Namibia
- Kenya
- Uganda
- Senegal
- Côte d’Ivoire
- Morocco
The opening matchups for the Rugby Africa Cup 2025 are:
- Zimbabwe vs Morocco
- Algeria vs Côte d’Ivoire
- Namibia vs Senegal
- Kenya vs Uganda
The tournament promises to be an exciting contest, with Morocco facing off against Zimbabwe, the reigning champions, in one of the highly anticipated matchups.
The games will be played at Kampala’s Mandela National Stadium, which is familiar turf for many, as Uganda also hosted the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup here.

Uganda was granted hosting rights for two consecutive years, with the 2025 tournament being a crucial step toward the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
The competition will be fierce with a knockout format, but there’s more on the line than just the title.
The 2025 Rugby Africa Cup winner will automatically secure a 2027 Rugby World Cup spot.
The loser to the RAC 2025 finalists has a second chance to qualify but must play an Africa / Asia play-off match against Asia 2 to decide who plays in the final qualification tournament.
Beyond the action on the field, Uganda is set to shine as a host nation, offering its world-class hospitality and showcasing its passionate rugby culture.
The Rugby Africa and World Rugby delegates and committee members from around the globe will attend, making this an event that celebrates rugby and unites nations across the continent.
